Ideas

Channel guidelines. Guides, not rules.

Profanity
Please don't cuss like a sailor. A dirty word now and then is entirely fine. In all regards, please treat other members of the channels with respect.
Sexual tone of conversation
If it's overtly sexual, i.e. netsex, graphic depictions, please take it to personal chat or a -asl channel such as ##gaygeeks-asl. Clinical or dispassionate observations of sex or sexual acts may be appropriate. Flirtation and mild sexual chat is acceptable unless someone asks you to move it to -asl. Use good judgement and take it to -asl on your own if it really should be -asl materiel.
Pictures
Share all you want, but if it's not safe for work (NSFW), explicitly say so - remember, graphical non-sexual photos may also be NSFW. Don't get upset if someone does post NSFW materiel in these channels.
Topic
Talk about anything you want. We are gay geeks. That doesn't mean we ONLY talk about "gay" or "geek" stuff.
Illegalities, racism, prejudice, religious rants, starting drama etc
1st person utterance is absolutely prohibited. 3rd person and clinical discussion about said subjects is fine.
Changing the topic
Try to be fair and share your time in the spotlight with everyone else. Everyone can change the topic or add/delete from it.
Ops
Most regulars can have ops. If you hang around often and you think you're mature and want ops then please ask Blu3 for ops. However, please don't sit opped in the channel. If you don't need +o at the moment, de-op yourself.
Email
If you want a gaygeeks.info virtual email address (forwards to another mailbox), ask Blu3.
Bots
Sure, just don't make them annoying. In general they should be passive members of the channel.
Why #gay, ##gay, in addition to ##gaygeeks and ##gaygeeks-asl?
Way back when (when freenode began), I started #gaygeeks because #gay was a "forgotten" channel and most people didn't understand what ## was vs #. Now #gay forwards to ##gay but ##gaygeeks is well established. :)
Why ##gaygeeks instead of #gaygeeks?

Long story. Short version is I (Blu3) started #gaygeeks when freenode started. Nicktastic came along a year later and hung out with me. Eventually he asked if he could register the channel. I said sure. Time went buy, Nicktastic faded away. Another guy came along (Zotnix) and talked to Nicktastic. Nick wasn't around, didn't realize I was still around, and gave the channel registration to Zotnix. Zotnix then removed my high level auth for the channel and then removed my auth/ops entirely. He then created bullshit about me taking over the channel and making threats etc., and said a lot of shit behind my back to other channel members who relayed it to me.

I got tired of the constant bullshit and the threat to ban me entirely based entirely on his fiction. I started ##gaygeeks and ##gaygeeks-asl. Nick showed back up and we are a happy family again in ##gaygeeks without all the fucked up controlling overlord drama in ##gaygeeks. Don't start drama about "the other channel" or Zotnix. None of us want to hear it. There is no conspiracy, no migration from # to ##, and no drama. If you try to start some, you will get kicked or banned.

You are entirely welcome to join #gaygeeks and chat in there as well as ##gaygeeks all you want.
